Ethics & Coffee with Jason Borenstein: Measuring Personal and Professional Responsibility Attitudes Among Georgia Tech's Undergraduates

Abstract:

Our research team embarked on a multiyear, NSF funded project with the aim of systematically evaluating the role that a broad range of activities, including those connected to a community engagement (CE) experience, have on student attitudes about their ethical responsibilities to the public. Among the questions we sought to examine are: (1) whether and how curricular experiences promote a concern for the public’s well-being and (2) what role extracurricular activities play, if any, in increasing student concern for the public. In this presentation, Dr. Borenstein will provide an overview of the project’s mixed methods approach, highlight several of the key research findings, and discuss the implications the findings could have for ethics education.
