Grace Fletcher graduated from Georgia Tech in 2021 degrees in Public Policy and Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies. Since then, she has begun a career in the public sector, working in solar energy in Massachusetts.
1. What are you up to post-graduation? What led you there?
I live in Boston and work for the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources as a program coordinator, helping run the state’s solar energy incentive program. I had a goal of moving to Boston after graduation and was interested in working in government, so I got very lucky that everything worked out in my favor.
2. What’s your favorite part of your current role?
Every person on my team is incredibly dedicated and pleasant to work with. We’re a relatively small team, but we’re achieving significant progress in the clean-energy space and setting a positive example for other states to follow.
3. How do you think your Georgia Tech public policy education prepared you to succeed?
My courses in energy and environmental policy gave me the baseline knowledge I needed to enter my field and already have a sense of what’s going on and how things work.
4. What’s something that surprised you about post-graduation life?
How quickly time flies! When you’re no longer marking time by semesters and you’re just living day-to-day life, the weeks and months pass by so quickly, which I’m still getting used to.
5. What’s something you miss about Georgia Tech?
I miss always having access to new people and new interests to pursue whenever you want. Making friends and filling your free time in a meaningful way takes a little more effort outside of the college environment.
6. What’s one piece of advice that you have for students who are graduating this semester?
Give yourself more credit than you think you deserve for all your accomplishments thus far.
