Philosophy Minor and Certificate

Studying philosophy sharpens your ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and understand the world from multiple perspectives — from science and society to human experience and ethics. These skills strengthen judgment, creativity, and leadership long after graduation.

Students in the philosophy minor come from diverse academic backgrounds. Some arrive with a foundation in philosophy from International Baccalaureate or AP courses, while others discover it through an introductory class that sparks deeper curiosity about ethics, epistemology, or phenomenology.

Many students have gone on to apply philosophical thinking in impactful ways — including a recent graduate who earned a Rhodes Scholarship, completed a DPhil in Philosophy at Oxford on political liberalism, and a JD at Harvard, returning to Georgia Tech to teach during the process.

Students pursuing the philosophy minor must complete at least 15 credit hours of philosophy coursework. The certificate in philosophy requires a minimum of 12 credit hours.
