What kind of background do M.S. PUBP students have?

M.S. PUBP students come from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds and represent diverse demographics. The program suits students aiming to develop analytical skills for work across public, private, and nonprofit sectors, as well as those pursuing advanced research degrees. The program helps students strengthen skills in quantitative, economic, data science, and qualitative analysis.

What opportunities are available for M.S. PUBP graduates?

How long does the program take?

It typically takes four semesters (two years) to complete the 46 credit hours required for the program.

Can I take the program part-time while working?

Yes, part-time study is available with a minimum requirement of three credit hours per term. Many students take an extra semester or two, especially if they secure internships.

What financial aid is available?

Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) are available to qualified students. These positions include a full tuition waiver and a stipend.

What courses are required to complete the degree?

When do I need to apply?

The fall admission priority deadline is Feb. 15, and applications are accepted until March 15 if space is available. For spring admission, the deadline is Oct. 1. Apply online at the Graduate Admissions website.

What do I need to submit to apply?

  • Application fee: $75 (domestic), $85 (international)
  • Transcripts: Unofficial can be uploaded during the process, but official transcripts are required upon acceptance.
  • Test scores: GRE required (Institute code: R5248, Department code: 94). 
  • English proficiency: Georgia Tech requires that all applicants demonstrate proof of English language proficiency at the time of application. Specific requirements are available on the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Education website.
    • Note: The department does not accept Duolingo for English proficiency.
  • Three letters of recommendation: From former employers, teachers, or professionals familiar with your ability to do graduate-level work.

When will application decisions be released?

Decisions are released by May 1 for fall admissions and December 1 for spring admissions.

Can I pursue two master's programs concurrently?

The M.S. PUBP can be paired with the M.S. in City and Regional Planning as a dual degree.

Can I choose two tracks or concentrations?

Yes, students are encouraged to pursue more than one concentration, either individualized or faculty-developed.

Do I need to find a potential supervisor before applying?

No.

Does the program qualify as a STEM program for visa purposes?

No, the M.S. PUBP does not qualify as a STEM program.
