Overview
Chad F. Slieper serves as Director of the Law, Science, and Technology program and is an Academic Professional in Georgia Tech’s School of Public Policy, his undergraduate alma mater. In his post, he directs the curriculum and administration of the Program’s Law, Science, and Technology Minor and Pre-Law and Intellectual Property Certificates, teaches in the School of Public Policy, provides pre-law advice to any Georgia Tech student interested in law school, and develops programming at the intersection of issues in law, science, technology, and policy. He also serves as the School of Public Policy's Faculty Liaison to Georgia Tech's LGBTQIA Resource Center.
He was previously on the clinical ethics faculty at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where he advised doctors, nurses, health professionals, patients, and families regarding decision-making in ethically challenging situations. He was named Chief, ad interim, of Clinical Ethics at M. D. Anderson during his time there, and he served on a variety of institutional committees, including MD Anderson’s Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) and Clinical Ethics Committee. He taught medical ethics in a variety of venues at M. D. Anderson, and he has published in the field of medical ethics. He has presented his work at annual meetings of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities and the UICC World Cancer Congress. He was selected to participate in M. D. Anderson’s Administrative Leadership Program, and he previously directed an academic program in Global Health Law at his other alma mater, Emory University School of Law. He also spent a number of years working for law firms in the area of professional ethics.
He has won a number of teaching awards at Georgia Tech, including a 2022 CIOS Award, recognizing Georgia Tech's top fifty instructors as measured by the course instructor opinion survey, and a Distinguished Teaching Award from the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. In 2012-2013, he received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Georgia Tech’s School of Public Policy. Georgia Tech has also named him a Face of Inclusive Excellence. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, and he previously served on the Board of Directors of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia.
